Probable Cause Hearing for Norwood Man Charged with Rape Rescheduled

Kevin M. McCarthy, of Sunnyside Road in Norwood, was charged with two counts of rape and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 in June of this year.

A probable cause hearing in the case of a Norwood man charged with rape and indecent assault has been rescheduled to September.

Kevin M. McCarthy, of Sunnyside Road in Norwood, was scheduled to appear in court for a probable cause hearing last Thursday, Aug. 16. A new hearing date was set for Sept. 28, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney's office.

McCarthy was and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 in June of this year after a year-long investigation by Norwood Police led to his arrest. He pled not guilty in Dedham District Court on June 6.

In April of 2011 a female victim came to the Norwood Police Station reporting she was sexually assaulted in her parked vehicle. The male subject allegedly said he was a police officer. He began to look through the vehicle asking the victim for drugs. According to the police, the victim pleaded with the subject to leave, he refused and sexually assaulted her.

This case was investigated by Norwood Police Detective John Gover and members of the Sexual Assault Unit of the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. Through investigation it was learned that the suspect was formerly a Westwood Police Officer who was terminated several years ago.
