Revitalized Norwood Commission On Disability Seeks Members

Applications are currently being accepted as the committee rebuilds.

NORWOOD, MA - The Town Of Norwood is reestablishing its Commission on Disability and is seeking new members.

Norwood once had a very active commission on disability for several years which primarily focused on architectural access-related issues, but it has been dormant in recent years. Now the town is looking to reengage a commission on disability to specifically focus on other areas such as community outreach and education on neurodiversity; challenges for deaf and blind individuals; disability disaster preparedness; and training for both municipal and other entities on serving populations with disabilities with a specific focus on neurodiversity and blind/deaf awareness at varying levels.

Architectural access will still be a concern, but changes to building codes and municipal facilities in the last few decades have greatly enhanced accessibility. Commission members can be from anywhere in the community, although it is recommended that commissions on disabilities maintain a proportion of individuals on the commission who have disabilities. Advocates and family members are encouraged to seek a spot as well.
