Selectmen Notes: New Restaurant for South Norwood

Public Hearing for Letizia’s Homestyle Italian

There was a Public Hearing at the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday night regarding Letizia's Homestyle Italian's application for a CV (Common Victualler) license.

Michael Konicki, owner of Letizia's, told the Board the restaurant will serve homestyle Italian food including pizza, calzones, pasta, salads, and items from a prepared deli case.

"We want to be known a little more than just a pizza place," he said.

Letizia's will be opening at 1243 Washington St. in South Norwood hopefully by August 3, Konicki said.

The Board unanimously approved the license with the condition that the fees owed by previous business must be paid before the license is released.

Interim Chief for the Norwood Fire Department

The Board discussed a request from Ronald Maggio, acting Chief of the Norwood Fire Department, for an interim Chief to be appointed by the town. Maggio advised the Selectmen that he has been acting Chief for three months.

"There's a process that we have to consider going through and setting up," Selectman Bill Plasko said, suggesting that the Board make no formal response as the issue needed further discussion.

The Board unanimously passed Plasko's motion to hold the issue for further discussion.

Funds Transfer for Town Hall Project

William Kinsman, Chairman of the Permanent Building Construction Committee, came before the Board Tuesday to request support for a reserve fund transfer of $33,650 for the Town Hall project.

The issue will be decided before the Financial Committee, but the Board voted unanimously to support the request.

Executive Session

The Board went into Executive Session just before 8 p.m. "to discuss the physical condition or mental health of an employee."
