Stoughton Bank Robber Arrested After Fleeing Through Norwood

A 30-year-old white male was arrested and charged in connection with an unarmed bank robbery in Stoughton after attempting to use the money at a Norwood supermarket, according to Norwood Police logs.

Nicholas Twomey, 30, of Homesite Rd. in Brockton, robbed Webster Bank on Washington St. in Stoughton Monday afternoon and then fled the scene, but was arrested in Walpole later Monday evening, Executive Officer Robert Devine said.

Twomey entered Webster Bank, located at the corner of Washington and Monk Streets, around 3 p.m. on June 11, passed a note to the teller, and made off with about $2,000 in cash, Devine said.

Twomey was caught on surveillance camera. He was wearing a long-sleeved yellow shirt and a Red Sox hat at the time. Devine said he was unarmed. The robbery did not result in any injuries.

Devine said Twomey got in the get away car, drove from Monk St. to Grove St., then from Grove St. to Pleasant St. to Prospect St. and then into Brockton.

While on Grove St., a dye pack in the bag of money exploded, Devine said. Twomey then discarded some of the money as a result.

With the suspect on the loose, Stoughton Police sent out an alert to area police departments, Devine said.

At 5:39 p.m., Norwood Police received a call from Stop & Shop on Boston-Providence Highway that two males were in the store trying to use money that had red dye on it. Police issued a "Be On The Lookout" to all officers for the party's vehicle.

Twomey was detained by Walpole Police near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 27, according to Norwood Police. Stoughton Police then arrested and transported Twomey from Walpole back to Stoughton around 7:30 p.m. on June 11.

He is charged with unarmed bank robbery, as well as other various offenses in Walpole, Devine said.
