Coronavirus Claims Owner Of Popular North Shore Ice Cream Maker

MIDDLETON, MA — The man known as Mr. Bill to generations of workers and customers at Richardson's Farm in Middleton died in assisted living facility April 17 after contracting the new coronavirus.

William Daniels, 82, had co-owned the popular ice cream business with his brother-in-law Paul Richardson for 45 years. Daniels continued to work at the farm well into his seventies, according to an obituary.

"For many employees he was a mentor who gave them their first job, along with confidence and a sense of responsibility," his obituary said. "Many returned over the years to thank him for his faith in their abilities."

Daniels grew up in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School before attending Boston University. He is survived by Anne Richardson Daniels, his wife of 53 years, three children and four grandchildren.

"Known for his sweet tooth, youthful spirit, and spicy sense of humor, he will be missed," the obituary concluded.
