One Of Peabody's First Female Officers Retires
Lt. Sheila McDaid was sworn into the Peabody Police in 1991.

PEABODY, MA – Lt. Sheila McDaid announced her retirement in 2016 with Officer Nancy Hart. The pair were sworn in together in 1991 as the first two female officers at the Peabody Police Department, and retired within six months of each other.
On Friday, McDaid officially retired, according to a statement from the Peabody Police. The post praised McDaid for working as a detective in the domestic violence unit, becoming officer in command of the Records Division, and for being promoted to lieutenant.
"Lt. McDaid helped pave the way for all current and future female Peabody PD officers and is an inspiration to all her colleagues and friends," said the post on the Peabody Police Facebook page. "We will miss Lt. McDaid's positive attitude, work ethic and contagious laughter here at the department."
