Peabody Coronavirus Curve Continues To Flatten
But the latest weekly report from the city show that another 26 Peabody residents died after being infected with COVID-19.

PEABODY, MA —The latest weekly report from Peabody officials shows gains in the city's fight to slow the spread of the coronavirus, with just 72 new cases reported between May 11 and 18.
To date, 911 Peabody residents have tested positive for the coronavirus. Of those, 123 patients died, 280 patients have recovered and 508 cases remain active. For the week covered in the report, there were 26 coronavirus-related deaths reported.
Peabody's coronavirus death rate of 12 percent remains above the state average of 7 percent, in large part because of the high number of long-term care facilities in the city. Nursing homes and other long-term care facilities have accounted for more than half of all coronavirus deaths in Massachusetts since the first death was recorded March 20.

The latest report shows that 122, or 13 percent, of the Peabody residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized. Of the 911 total cases in Peabody, 221, or 24 percent, were in patients with underlying health conditions.
