Peabody Coronavirus: 23 Additional Deaths In Latest Report
The city of Peabody now has 758 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 74 percent of those considered still active.

PEABODY, MA — The high concentration of nursing homes in Peabody continued to push the city's coronavirus case count and death toll higher.
As of Monday, there were 83 reported coronavirus-related deaths of Peabody residents, up from 60 a week earlier. The confirmed case count rose 758, up from 616 from the report for the week ended April 27.
Of the 758 total cases, 112 patients, or 15 percent, are listed as "recovered." There were other bright spots in the report, including a downward trend in the number of new confirmed cases in recent days. After 22 new cases were reported on April 28, the number has gone down, with just a single new confirmed case in Peabody on May 4.

The Peabody reported death rate of 11 percent of confirmed cases is higher than the statewide death rate of six percent. The state does not break down the percentages of cases where patients have recovered.

All but two of the Peabody residents have been over the age of 70s. The new report shows a man in his 40s died after being hospitalized, but it was unknown if he had any preexisting conditions. A man in his 50s, who did have preexisting conditions, is the only other person under the age of 70 listed on the report.
