Peabody Names New High School Principal

PEABODY, MA — The Peabody School Committee selected Steven Magno as the next principal of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School in a virtual meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Magno, who grew up in Peabody and graduated from St. John's Prep, currently works as the principal at SeaCoast High School in Revere.

"He's knowledgeable, he's fair," school committee member Joseph Amico said. "As a Peabody kid he'll do a great job at the high school."

In September, assistant superintendent Chris Lord was named permanent principal of the school after filling the job in an interim capacity. But when Superintendent Cara Murtagh died unexpectedly in November, the school system set out to find a replacement for the start of the 2020-21 school year so Lord could focus on his work as an administrator.
