Peabody Police Issue Refresher on Winter Parking

Peabody Police are asking for help keeping the roads clean during blizzard season.

PEABODY, MA – While most people heeded the Peabody parking ban over the weekend, police said some citations had to be issued, and some cars towed. Between responding to car accidents in the snow and weather-related emergencies, getting called for tows can be a burden on police.

"During Friday's blizzard, I'd like to thank residents for assisting to keep the roadways clear for public works. We had great cooperation," wrote Police Chief Tom Griffin in a statement. "However, there were instances that required citations to be issues and/or vehicles towed. It's unfortunate when we have to town any vehicle, but if it's impeding snow removal operations, or public safety, the vehicle will be removed."

Griffin said the police department has extra staffing during forecasted weather events, but the call volume gets out of control, usually at the same time. Police also tend to get more calls for dumping, and ask that residents be aware of property lines. Shoveling snow into the street or plowing into the street is illegal, as is parking on sidewalks.

"If we have cooperation and the roadways are clear it's safer for everybody," said Griffin.
