Retired Policeman Honored For Heroic Act

Robert Waitt, 85, relied on his experience with the Lynn Police Department when he assisted a stricken Peabody man.

PEABODY, MA – Retired Lynn Policeman Robert Waitt was honored earlier this week for administering life-saving procedures to a stricken Peabody man.

Fire Chief Steve Pasdon, Police Chief Tom Griffin, Council on Aging Director Carolyn Wynn, Waitt, Council on Aging Finance Director Karen Sousa, Cynthia Oullette, Public Education Manager with the State Fire Marshall’s Office, and Mayor Bettencourt gathered at city hall on Tuesday to recognize Waitt and honor the two police officers bring promoted to Sergeant, and to swear in three recent academy graduates.

Bettencourt recognized Waitt of Peabody for his efforts on Oct. 27 at the Senior Center. Waitt is an 85-year-old Peabody resident, retired from the Lynn Police Department, who helped a Peabody man at the Senior Center when he fell ill.
