TRAFFIC ALERT

NORTH READING/READING

ROUTE 28 OVER THE IPSWICH RIVER 

RESTRICTED BRIDGE WIDTH STARTING THURSDAY, MAY 2^ND  

Beginning on Thursday, May 2^nd, the right lane on Route 28 South in the vicinity of the bridge over the Ipswich River at the North Reading/Reading line will be closed to traffic.  The lane will be closed to shift traffic away from a portion of the bridge that is deteriorated. 

Appropriate signs, channelizing devices and traffic control measures will be used to guide drivers through the restricted area.

MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, if possible, to avoid delays.  Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the traffic setup.

MassDOT is currently reviewing traffic volume information in order to determine the optimal lane use configuration for the affected section of Route 28.  At the completion of this review, a more permanent traffic management plan will be implemented.  A separate advisory will be issued in conjunction with that plan.
