RCASA to Host Film Screening

On February 13, 2013, from 7:30-9:00 p.m., RCASA will host a film screening at the Jordan’s IMAX Theatre, 50 Walkers Brook Drive in Reading, MA. My Name Was Bette: The Life and Death of an Alcoholic is a 58-minute award-winning documentary that examines alcoholism in women by tracing the development and progression of the disease in Bette VandenAkker (pictured left) a nurse, wife, and mother who lost her life to it in fall of 2007.

The filmmakers use interviews, family photographs, documents, and vintage medical graphics to provide a personal, in-depth look at the physiological and psychological toll alcoholism takes on its victims. The film contains mature content and is recommended for ages 13 and older. The film was co-produced by Sherri VandenAkker & Josh Hays. The film has received the following honors:

Following the film, a Panel Discussion will be moderated by RCASA featuring: Diana Clark, Family Healing Strategies Consultant; Gabrielle Dean, Right-Turn Clinical Director; Julianne DeAngelis, RCASA Outreach Coordinator; William Drinkwater, Dual Disorders Specialist; Jason Moscato, Riverside Community Care Program Director; and Sherri VandenAkker, film co-producer, writer and director.
