Attorney General's Office Approves Zoning Change Passed by Town Meeting

The zoning change will allow an assisted living facility to be built on Main Street.

The attorney general’s office approved a zoning change Town Meeting members voted on last month, according to the Chronicle. Town Meeting voted 124 to 9 to approve the zoning change to allow an assisted living facility for people with Alzheimer’s to open at the site of Eric’s garden center on Main Street.

Current zoning allows assisted living facilities in that zoning district, according to the warrant article, but the current zoning language would limit the number of locations where one could be built. Under the zoning change, an assisted living facility can now be built at the Main Street site, with certain approvals and stipulations.

  • The property fronts on Main Street
  • The land is more than three acres in size
  • The facility has its driveway within 600 feet of a signalized intersection

Artis Senior Living proposes to build a 64-unit facility at 1090-1100 Main St. for elders who need help with activities of daily living, such as dressing and eating, consultant for Artis Patrick Mallon told Patch.
