Barrows Elementary Principal Retiring in June

Barrows Principal Karen Callan plans to retire at the end of the school year.

The search is on for a new prinicpal at the Barrows School. Current Principal Karen Callan has plans to retire at the end of the school year, according to the Daily Times Chronicle.

The School Committee reviewed and approved the process of finding a new principal Monday night, the Chronicle said. Superintendent John Doherty hopes to have the search completed by the end of May, he told Patch. 

Elizabeth Conway, Human Resources Administrator-Facilitator; Alison Elmer, Director of Student Services- District Administrator; Cathy Giles, Principal, Killam-Administrator; Eric Sprung, Principal, Birch Meadow-Administrators; three teachers; a member of the support staff; and three parents will make up the screening committee for the new prinicpal, according to the Chronicle.

The following dates and times are part of a tentative timetable to find the new principal, the Chronicle reported:

March 18: The job was advertised on School Spring, MASS, MASPA and Monster.com.

March 19-March 28: Surveys of Barrows Staff and parents will be conducted. Focus Group Sessions with staff, parents (School Council) and administrators will be completed. Online Surveys and more will be completed.

April 9: Organizational meeting will be held in the School Committee Conference Room.

April 22: Date of deadline for applications.

April 24-29: Applications will be read online. (Schoolspring.com)

April 23: Meeting to design questions.

April 26: Candidate interviews will take place all day and pre-finalists will be selected.

April 29-May 10: Vetting Process, superintendent interviews, open microphone night or nights, site visits and final superintendent interview completed.

May 20: School Committee notification.
