ICYMI: Reading Named Among Best Suburbs To Raise Children

In case you missed it during the busy week, Niche.com ranked the best suburbs in which to raise a family in the Bay State.

The Town of Reading is one of the best suburbs in Massachusetts to raise a family, according to a report.

Niche.com, a website which ranks communities and colleges across the United States, released its list of “2015 Best Suburbs to Raise a Family in Massachusetts.” Reading came in at No. 30.

Niche.com’s rankings were based on age demographics, school ratings, crime rates, affordable housing, child care, libraries and grocery stores, among other factors.

Reading received an A+ overall Niche Grade. “It has very high home values, very high rent costs, and low unemployment levels,” the website said. “Its citizens generally have high education levels and very high income levels.”

According to Niche, Reading’s higher education rate is 55.3 percent and its public schools received an ‘A’ Niche Grade. Additionally, the median rent in Reading is $1,326 and median home values are $438,100, the website said.

The median household income of $105,459 was well above the national average of $53,046.
