Letter to the Editor: Cash Mob at the Chocolate Truffle

Executive Director Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce Julie Higgins shares information about the Cash Mob at the Chocolate Truffle.

Dear Editor,

On Thursday, August 23rd, the sponsored its first “Cash Mob” at in Reading. On this day, due to the overwhelming support of our Chamber members and the community, the owners of The Chocolate Truffle tripled their sales proving the event a real success!

The goal of the Cash Mob was to provide continued support to our incredible Chamber members and to remind the public of the importance of buying local. This is not just a trendy saying; the effort to purchase products and services within our town does have an impact: For every $1 spent at a local business, 45 cents is reinvested locally. Conversely, for every $1 spent at a corporate chain, only 15 cents in reinvested locally. For me, the choice to support my community is an easy one.

The Chamber of Commerce is committed to reminding the public to buy local and has several events planned in the coming months that support this cause. Our Buy Local weekend event is scheduled for September 14-16 and we will be planning the next Cash Mob for this fall at a small business in North Reading. Please consider taking part in these events to exercise your commitment to the wonderful town we live in.

Regards,
