As an individual in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder, I sought treatment at many different facilities and recognized the local need for quality treatment centers in New England. Nearly 10 years ago, I opened Michael’s House Sober Living in Wilmington, Mass., a sober living community for individuals seeking long term residential recovery.

A few years later, we opened an additional sober living community in Andover, Mass. called Patrick’s House. With Liberty Health Services, we can now treat individuals seeking acute care for their respective substance use disorders.

Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?

Sullivan: If I had to sum up my business mission in five words, those five words would be...
“Providing quality care for communities.”

Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?

Sullivan: The biggest challenge that I have faced in my position is finding balance. I consider myself to be a very passionate person, and once I start something, I am determined to see it through. Family is my other passion; my wife Leigh and I have two beautiful children, Caroline and Liam. Balancing my time between work and family is certainly a challenge, but I've been blessed with an understanding family as well as phenomenal, caring employees at Liberty Health Services.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?

Sullivan: The most satisfying part of my job is getting to play a role in people rebuilding their lives. People make such an astounding turnaround from entering our facility, to leaving a short time after with such renewed optimism. The change that takes place in a few days is truly incredible.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Sullivan: Our business distinguishes itself from others due to our ability to provide individualized care for our clients. We do not follow a cookie-cutter approach when it comes to substance use disorder treatment. Our facility has only 24 beds to provide an intentionally- intimate setting. Our modern amenities, including luxurious living accommodations, gourmet cuisine, and even television streaming services help clients find comfort in their recovery journeys. Each client meets one-on-one with a medical provider and a case manager daily. Our goal is to safely and comfortably detox individuals while under medical supervision, as well as facilitate an aftercare plan specifically to meet everyone's needs. In addition, our 24-hour nursing coverage helps to ensure medical safety for all seeking treatment.

Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Sullivan: The best advice I ever received came from my AA sponsor: “If you wait until you are 100 percent ready to do something, you'll never do anything.” I find this advice to be especially significant to those who are on the fence about seeking treatment. Recovery doesn’t need to be scary. At Liberty Health Services, we work hard to promote practical, quality care.
