New Design Ideas for Old Sturges Park in Reading

There will be a meeting regarding the park on July 26.

The following was submitted by Lisa Egan:

This month, a community action committee will start the planning and redesign process for , one of Reading’s oldest and most popular green spaces. Reading residents and neighbors are invited for a springboard discussion on the park’s condition and usage, possible improvements and strategic goals at an open meeting on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Conference Room.

Any resident can also participate in an online survey and make suggestions by contacting the committee at sturgespark@gmail.com or by visiting www.sturgesparkreading.com. The committee is charged with reviewing park services, making recommendations for cost-effective updates, and managing the redesign process along with the Town of Reading’s recreation and engineering departments.

Sturges Park is located at the intersection of Pine Ridge Road and South Street. This unique and well-used recreation area currently has a baseball diamond, tennis courts, a winter ice skating space and a play structure. Parking, ADA-accessibility, aging facilities and drainage are some of the pressing issues that will be addressed by the committee.
