Podcast Covers Reading 'Hockey Dad' Death

A recent episode of "Crime of the Truest Kind," hosted by radio DJ and personality Anngelle Wood, covers the 2000 killing of Michael Costin.

READING, MA — A true crime podcast hosted by longtime Boston radio DJ and personality Anngelle Wood recently covered an infamous Reading case.

"Crime of the Truest Kind," which focuses on New England-based crime stories, launched in October 2020. A May 21 episode touched on the 2000 death of Michael Costin after a fight with another father at Burbank Ice Arena, known as the "Hockey Dad" death.

Thomas Junta was sentenced to 6-10 years in prison for beating Costin to unconsciousness and causing the injuries that killed him the next day. He was released from prison in 2010.

Other cases covered by Wood include the Edgewater Technologies rampage in Wakefield, the Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island and the murder of Canton high schooler Shaun Ouillette.

"“It's a responsibility, I believe, to cover these cases," Wood said in a statement. "The victims and the families cannot be fodder for laughter and taunts. Empathy should always be present. I do not, however, protect the feelings of murderers and criminals. What is most important is telling an accurate story with empathy for the families of those involved. These are people who've had an enormous burden to bear with the loss of their loved ones. Now there are people digitally lurking into their lives. As a professional broadcaster, I take that seriously. We all should as human beings."
