Reading Resident Named Interim President at Newton-Wellesley Hospital

Reading resident Patrick Jordan III has been named interim president of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, effective August 1. The current president, Michael Jellinek, MD, will step down due to his increasing responsibilities as Chief of Clinical Affairs at Partners HealthCare System.

Jordan has been with Newton-Wellesley Hospital since 2001, where he started as Senior Vice President for Administration and more recently Chief Operating Officer. He has been responsible for leadership of a variety of departments, and was instrumental in the implementation of the Hospital’s fiscal recovery plan over a decade ago.

“It is impossible to overstate Dr. Jellinek’s contributions to Newton-Wellesley Hospital,” said Jordan. “I am sad to see him go but fully understand that he must devote his attention to the work that lies ahead for Partners in order to prepare Newton-Wellesley and the rest of the system for success in a rapidly changing healthcare environment. I look forward to working with our outstanding executive leadership and building upon his great work, while continuing to deliver the Hospital’s mission to care for every patient as a beloved family member.”

Prior to joining Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Jordan worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was Administrative Director of Radiology. Radiology is the second largest department at MGH responsible for over 400,000 exams and $300 million in gross charges annually. During his three-year tenure in this position, Jordan led very successful efforts to improve service to patients and physicians, reduce costs, introduce new technology and manage a major rebuilding program. Prior to his leadership of the Radiology Department, Jordan was the Manager of Patient Care Services in Materials Management.

Jordan earned his bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College and an Executive MBA from Suffolk University. Prior to working at MGH, Jordan served for seven years in the 82nd Airborne Division and Special Operations Command. He was promoted to the rank of Captain during the invasion of Panama and was awarded the Bronze Star during the Persian Gulf War.  Jordan is a member of the Suffolk University Alumni Board of Trustees, as well as a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A Stoneham native, Jordan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick F. Jordan Jr. and currently resides in Reading with his wife and two children.
