Reading Study Poses Redesign Of Key Intersections

The town presented its findings Wednesday on traffic deficiencies at major intersections and corridors.

READING, MA — Reading hired traffic consulting firm Green International Associates to work with the town on a corridor analysis and conceptual redesign of key intersections. The study includes a review of existing documentation, traffic counts, accident data analysis and conceptual design development.

The corridors of Walkers Brook Drive, Ash Street, John Street and Washington Street are included in the review. Connectivity between Reading's two primary commercial areas - Walkers Brook and Downtown - were also explored as a tangential part of the analysis. This consists of a big-picture conceptual review and evaluation for improvements, similar to the MassDOT Complete Streets Tier 2 Plan.

In addition, accessibility to Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield was similarly studied. The purpose of the analysis is to lay the foundation for future design, engineering and infrastructure improvement implementation. This corridor analysis is funded partially by the town and a payment from the Eaton Lakeview 40B project developers. The final presentation, as well as a map of the studied intersections, is below.
