Reading Welcomes New Police Officers
Andrew Schmitz and Robert Hutchins both joined the Reading Police Department on Monday.

READING, MA — Reading has a pair of new police officers after a swearing-in ceremony at Town Hall on Monday.
Andrew Schmitz and Robert Hutchins officially joined the Reading Police Department after taking their oath from Town Clerk Laura Gemme.
Schmitz graduated from Northeastern University with an associate degree in criminal justice in 2020, according to his LinkedIn page. He joined the Boston Police Department as an officer in November of that year.

Hutchins comes to Reading after previously working for the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office.
“Welcome aboard!” the Reading Police Department wrote of Schmitz and Hutchins this week.
