Situational Awareness For Incoming Winter Storm In Town Of Reading

If you have to drive during the storm please be cautious, and remember "Don't Crowd the Plow."

January 27, 2022

(READING - JANUARY 27, 2022) – Town staff urge residents and businesses to prepare for a major winter storm expected to start Friday night and continue into the overnight hours Saturday. The National Weather Service is predicting 12-18” in this area at this time, but forecasts continue to have uncertainty as the storm develops.

Due to the duration of the storm and the staffing levels for the Town and contractors, we caution residents that sidewalk snow removal will not be completed until Tuesday, possibly Wednesday, of next week.

Since this area of eastern Massachusetts is expecting 12-18” of snow, crews will need to use the blower units, which take about twice as long as a sidewalk V-nose plow.

Additionally, residents are asked to please take in anything that may be curbside including trash barrels, recycling containers, and especially basketball hoops. These impede the process and are dangerous for our drivers and residents. Basketball hoops are at the same height as our large plow truck side mirrors and cause significant damage and create a dangerous situation for our crews
removing snow in poor conditions.
