State Conducting Tax Compliance Checks At Reading Businesses: Police
Police said on Tuesday that they had received suspicious activity calls. The visits, however, are legitimate compliance checks.
READING, MA — Recent visits from Department of Revenue (DOR) personnel at local businesses in Reading are legitimate, Reading Police said on Tuesday
The police took to social media, responding to what police said had been a series of suspicious activity complaints. They confirmed that state staff have been in town conducting compliance checks to ensure that businesses are properly registered with the state.
Police shared a flier from the Department of Revenue explaining that revenue examiners would be requesting certain tax documents to review.

Department personnel should be carrying photo identification with their job titles displayed, police said. Examiners will be handing out the same flier that police shared on Tuesday, according to police.
“We have spoken with the DOR and this is legitimate, it is not a scam,” police said this week.
