Top Five Stories Last Week

1. . A developer is interested in putting 60 units of affordable housing on north Main Street in Reading, just north of the town-owned Mattera Cabin and a group of residents told the Board of Selectmen Tuesday how they feel about the idea.

2. . Two children at the Goddard School in Reading were allegedly put in a closet by a teacher as punishment on two separate occasions and another teacher allegedly changed a child's diaper "roughly," according to a recently released report by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

3. Next Marian Burbine Court Date is March 21. A pre-trial conference for Marian Burbine is now set for Thursday, March 21 at Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn. 

4. Planet Fitness and Two Other Workout Facilities Get Waiver to Open at 5 am. Weekdays. Early bird gym-goers, take note. Three physical fitness facilities in Reading, including the soon-to-open Planet Fitness on Salem Street, nearREI, now hold waivers to open at 5 a.m. weekdays.

5. How Much Did the Blizzard Cost the Town? Reading spent a lot of money on the blizzard of '13. The town needed to plow and salt the roads for three days and nights. The town has 100 miles of road and 46 miles of sidewalk, according to DPW Director Jeffrey T. Zager. The total amount spent on the blizzard was approximately $245,000.
