Dear Incoming High School Class of 2016,
I hope that you are all enjoying your summer. Before you know it, school will be starting up again. I’m sure many of you have already seen advertisements on TV and in stores for back-to-school items. I know I have! This year when you go back to school, you will not only have a new and exciting year ahead of you, but you will also be entering the next phase of your education: high school.

High school is a time when many great things happen. Between meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones, gaining more independence, and getting involved in your school community, it is a lot of fun. That being said, high school can also be very challenging at times. Certain classes are rigorous, homework increases, and the thought of college awaits you. There is no need to worry, however, because there are people to help you in those difficult situations.
Take full advantage of all that high school has to offer. That is one thing that I certainly did as a high school student and I wouldn’t take any of it back. I challenge each and every one of you to get involved in at least one extra-curricular activity or sport, if not more. Involvement is important. It creates a good balance between school work and fun and can often turn a stressful day into an enjoyable one. High school is four years that go by quickly. Getting involved with at least something during your freshman year is definitely a good idea.

Last but not least, don’t worry about being ‘the new kids’ of your high school. You are all in it together. It may be difficult at first, but you will eventually get acclimated to your new school’s environment within the first month. Being together as classmates will stick with you for the rest of your years in high school, until the moment you go up to accept your diploma. I sincerely wish all of you the best of luck in your new adventure and hope that you find high school as wonderful as I did.
