Buckle Up for the Worst Potholes in Salem

We asked Patch Readers which streets have the most bumps, divots and craters in their area.

Nothing puts a dent in a morning commute like bad traffic and a street littered with potholes.

Blizzard 2016 left monumental snowfalls up and down the east coast, and Salem was not immune to its wrath.

Large snowfalls compiled with El Niño induced warmer temperatures have caused more potholes and road problems than most motorists can stomach.

Patch Readers gave us a rundown of particularly pocked streets in their neighborhoods. Here are some spots that might be worth detouring:

  • “Canal St from Jefferson all th way to Dominos. The worked on that street for months and it still is terrible.”
  • “Upper Loring Avenue, Boston Street (at Bridge St) Just to name two. Why is this such an issue to get addressed. The Police and town trucks are in the neighborhood all the time, and yet nothing is done. The best thing is when it is done and the guys stomp on the tar with their feet. Laughable.”
  • “Essex Street is the worst over by Hawthorne Hotel all the way down.”
  • “Coming up Highland Ave. way to the right before the hospital”
  • “Kosciousko Street and Essex at the Hawthorne.”
  • “Boston St. and Pope”
  • “Canal St is terrible. From the outside it must look like I’m driving while battling a vicious swarm of bees inside my car because of my efforts to dodge potholes while driving down canal.”
  • “Everywhere... what happened to the Canal street project??! doesn’t seem to have been fixed much.”
