UPDATED: Firefighters Knock Down Two-Alarm Fire Sunday Morning
Officials quickly extinguished the blaze at a home on Palmer Street, working to get residents back in the building.

Firefighters knocked down a fire that quickly went to two alarms Sunday morning at a multi-family apartment building on Palmer Street.
Officials received the report just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning of heavy fire on the first floor of the building, as well as reports of fire showing from the rear of the building located at located at 71 Palmer St. By just after 9 a.m., firefighters had the blaze extinguished.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Salem Deputy Fire Chief Brian Harrington.
Harrington estimated the total damage to the building at around $75,000. He said the residents could be displaced overnight as crews work to restore power to the building.

One firefighter bruised his hand during the fire, but was able to stay on the scene, Harrington said.
The Red Cross was on the scene to provide any assistance needed to the residents.
It is a four-story building with eight apartment units, and reports say the fire extended up from the first floor, clear in the picture tweeted by Action Page System.
