Newly Renovated Park Closed for Two Days for Utility Work
Splaine Park has a a new baseball field and playground.

One of Salem’s lesser-known parks that recently got a makeover is closed all day Thursday and Friday.
An announcement from city officials said contractors for the City are doing utility work in Splaine Park on Thursday, Aug. 14 and Friday, Aug. 15.
The park is closed to the public “for the duration of this work,” according to the announcement from the city.

The two-acre park is tucked away at the west end of the McIntire Historic District off Highland Avenue, near the corner of Boston and Essex Streets.
The city was awarded a grant of $420,946 from the Commonwealth’s Division of Conservation Services to renovate the park, including new entrances, rehabilitation of the baseball field, replacement of play equipment and installation of community garden plots. The newly renovated park reopened earlier this summer.
