Pedestrian Injured In Crash At Dangerous Salem Intersection
The south Salem intersection where the crash occurred is on a federal list of intersections earmarked for safety improvements.
SALEM, MA — A pedestrian was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston Tuesday night after being hit by a car near the intersection of Lafayette and Leach Streets in Salem. According to Massachusetts Department of Transportation data, there were four accidents involving pedestrians on that stretch of Lafayette Street between 2014 and 2016. That was enough to get it placed in the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program, which identifies roads and intersections in need of safety improvements.
The man sustained serious injuries and police requested advance life support to transport him to the hospital. His condition was not available Wednesday afternoon. The road was closed while Salem and Massachusetts State Police investigated the crash.
