Salem Names Four Superintendent Finalists

The Salem school committee has scheduled a series of community forums to introduce the four finalists.

SALEM, MA — The Salem School Committee's superintendent screening subcommittee has narrowed a field of 31 applicants to four finalists. The committee has scheduled a series of community forums next week to introduce the candidates. In addition to meeting with parents and community members during the forums, the finalists will visit Salem schools and meet with faculty, administrators, staff, and students, during the school day.

The schedule for the forums, with a brief biography for each candidate, is listed below. All forums will be at 6 p.m. on the listed date at Saltonstall School Library:

Monday, Feb. 3: Dr. Lourenco Garcia is the Executive Director of Data and Accountability for the Revere Public Schools. He was previously principal of Revere High School for eight years.

Tuesday, Feb. 4: Erin McMahon is currently National Chief Academic Officer for the KIPP Foundation in New York City. She previously was Associate Chief of Academics for Denver Public Schools and principal of the Henry Street School for International Studies in New York City.

Wednesday, Feb. 5: Dr. Stephen Zrike is currently the Superintendent of Holyoke Public Schools. Prior to accepting the position in Holyoke, he served as Superintendent of the Wakefield Public Schools.

Thursday, Feb. 6: Ben Lummis is currently Interim Superintendent of the Brookline Public Schools, where he previously served for four years as Special Assistant for Strategy and Performance.
