Salem Seeks Host Families For Japan Sister City Student Exchange

Host families are sought for 28 middle-school students, aged 13-14, for a week of English language and cultural immersion in July.

SALEM, MA — Salem families are being sought to host Japanese middle school students as part of the city's annual cultural exchange program with students in Ota-ka in Tokyo.

The three-decade program has helped Salem develop a deep cultural relationship with its sister city as Salem students travel to Japan and 28 middle-school-age students come to Salem for a week of English language and cultural immersion.

Students will arrive in the late afternoon on July 20 and stay with their host families until the morning of July 28. There are no Japanese language skills necessary to serve as a host family, as the students have basic English language proficiency.
