Sharon's Eruv Vandalized

Police say the Sharon Eruv has been damaged over the past few weeks.

SHARON, MA — Police are investigating damage done to a serious piece of infrastructure for the Sharon Jewish community.

Sharon Police posted on Facebook Friday that the Sharon Eruv has suffered extensive vandalism over the last few weeks. The vandalized part appears on the Massapoag trail between Ames Street and Billing Street, and Billings Street and Robs Lane.

The Eruv was constructed in 1990 and is a series of poles and string that mark the boundary of the Jewish community for the purpose of carrying items on the Sabbath

"The Eruv has served as a critical piece of infrastructure for the Jewish community by creating a sense of togetherness for hundreds of households in the Town of Sharon. Over 40 volunteers put in significant time and effort in order to maintain this Eruv on a weekly basis," Sharon Police wrote on Facebook.

There has been repeated vandalism of the line and now Sharon Eruv Society is offering a reward for information the leads to prevention of more vandalism.
