Bike Sharing Program Coming to Boston Neighborhoods
Mayor Menino signed a $6 million contract with Alta Bicycle Share on Thursday.

1. Sunny skies are expected today with patchy frost in the morning. Temperatures should reach the lower 50s and winds will die down...finally.
2. Come July, you'll be able to rent a bike to get around Boston. The Mayor signed a contract for a bike share program, dubbed Hubway, on Thursday afternoon. The system will start with 61 stations and 600 bikes across the city, and will work sort of like Zipcar, except rented from solar-powered, touch-screen kiosks. And, the first 30 minutes are free. The Mayor also made a comment about wanting to see Rep. Mike Capuano in spandex, but we'll stop there. Check back later today for more on this...the bike program, that is.
3. Don’t worry, drivers haven’t gotten the shaft. Earlier this week the Mayor also announced the repaving and reconstructing of nearly 36 miles of roadways damaged by this long, brutal, pothole-causing winter. The city managed to level fund $20 million for street repairs, and launched a new program to extend the life of roads that are five to 10 years old. And – it includes an effort to notify residents when work is being done on neighborhood streets. First on the list: Walnut Ave. in Roxbury, streets in the Frederick Douglas neighborhood in Roxbury/South End, and River Street in Hyde Park.
