Five Things: Community Colors Exhibit Showcases South End Artists
United South End Settlements is hosting an opening reception for the exhibit tonight.

Today is Thursday, October 13. Here are five things you need to know today:
1. Expect rain this morning along with patchy fog and then more rain this afternoon. Highs in the upper 60s.
2. The 4th Annual Community Colors art exhibition opens tonight at the Harriet Tubman Gallery (566 Columbus Ave). The exhibit features the work of South End/Lower Roxbury artists including abstract painter (and South Ender) JoAnn Rothschild. United South End Settlements is hosting an opening reception tonight from 6-8 p.m. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public on weekdays from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., will be on display through December 9.

3. unveiled a new fall menu this week featuring a roasted acorn squash filled with autumn vegetables, slow roasted pheasant and a warm apple cake with cider sorbet. Click here for the full menu.
4. Tickets to Neckties, a dining event to benefit Washington Gateway Main Street, are on sale now. The event, scheduled for November 9 from 6-11 p.m., begins at the Franklin House with silent and live auctions, entertainment, an open bar and appetizers before guests are transported to a surprise South End restaurant for dinner. Tickets to the reception and dinner are $125 per person and can be purchased here.

5. The twin red pandas born at the Franklin Park Zoo were name Yanhua and Duli, thanks to the suggestion of Chris Santos of Brookline. "Yanhua" is Chinese for "fireworks" and "Duli" is Chinese for "independence," which seems appropriate since they were born on the Fourth of July.
