Five Things: Resident Dance Companies at the BCA

Tickets are on sale for the 2011-2012 season.

Today is Tuesday, Sept. 13. Here are five things you need to know today:

1. Summer continues: sunny skies today with highs in the mid 80s. Southwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

2. Three dance companies have been selected for the 2011-2012 Dance Residency season at the . Caitlin Corbett Dance Company of Cambridge, Contrapose Dance of Cambridge and Kairos Dance Theater of Charlestown were chosen by a jury to receive free rehearsal and performance space, technical and administrative support and direct financial assistance to be used at the artists’ discretion.

Tickets to dance performances are affordable at $15-20 and can be purchased here. Classes are also available through some companies, click here for a full calendar of Dance Residency events at the BCA.

5. A group of Northeastern University students is distributing an underground "Dis-Orientation Guide" to students this week. The 22-page guide (attached here as a PDF) "serves as a reminder of the issues that we are not made aware of. Issues that we, even as temporary Bostonians, should care about."

Sections of the pamphlet take issue with Northeastern's burgeoning tuition and emphasis on college rankings. At a meeting to , student Jon Phoenix said many students do not support the university's expansion into residential neighborhoods. Phoenix penned the guide along with several others.
