Five Things: South End Bridges Labeled 'Structurally Deficient'

Independent report says Mass Pike overpasses require maintenance.

1. Mostly sunny skies to start the week with highs in the mid 70s and light wind.

2. Two Mass Pike overpasses in the South End (on Tremont Street and Shawmut Avenue) were labeled "structurally deficient" in a Transportation for America Report that advocates for more funding for bridge repair. According to the report, the Tremont Street overpass, built in 1965, requires maintanance to the deck and substructure. Structurally deficient bridges aren't necessary unsafe, the report stated, but it does require "significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement."

3. United South End Settlements is leading an through the Harrison-Albany Corridor tonight for folks interested in hearing about plans to enliven the area.
