Five Things: South Ender Wins Health Champion Award

2. South End resident Fernando Domenech received a Whittier Men's Health Champion Award this month for using his talents as an architect to focus on urban initiatives within inner-city communities. Domenech is pictured above with Roberto Clemente Jr., son of the legendary Baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente and Frederica Williams, CEO of Whittier Health Center.
3. Peters Park held its Family Gardening Day on Sunday to celebrate Fathers Day, the start of summer and the last days of school. Children were able to beautify the playground area with flowers while strollers were washed down for the summer season. We'll have photos of the event later this morning.

4. Starting July 1, the Boston Public Library won't mail you late notices, according to the BPL Facebook page. They'll be by email and phone only. Update your BPL account with an email if you haven't already.
5. It's the first day of summer and what better way to celebrate than a trip to the Boston Harbor Islands? And it gets better, today is Free Ferry Day, which means you can travel to either George's or Spectacle Island for free. Ferries depart from the Long Wharf North Ferry Center every half hour between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are available on a first-come first-served basis.
