Five Things: Volunteers Needed For South End Garden Tour

Help out at the 18th annual event next Saturday, June 18.

1. Today's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s. Perfect, really.

2. Volunteers are needed to "garden sit" at private gardens included in the South End Garden Tour on June 18. Two-hour shifts are available in the morning and afternoon (afternoon preferred) and all volunteers receive a complimentary ticket as a thank you. Email Claire Chisholm at clairec48@yahoo.com by June 10 to sign up.

3. Volunteering not your thing? Attend the tour as a paying guest. New this year: Artists in the Garden. Local artists will be creating art in the gardens during the tour, and all art will be for sale immediately following the event at City Year headquarters. Tickets to the South End Garden tour are $20 in advance, and can be purchased here.

4. Local firefighters are spearheading a tornado relief effort for victims in Western Massachusetts. People can drop off supplies at any local fire station, and items will be distributed to residents in the 19 communities affected. Requested items are: water, blue tarps, flashlights, batteries, glow sticks, bungee cords and rope. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

5. A new hair salon is opening on Tremont Street. We'll have the scoop later today - check back with us.
