Five Things: Wally's Owners Honored by Jazz Journalists Association

A celebration will be held this Saturday at the famous jazz cafe.

1. Last night's thunderstorms broke the heat wave, with sun and cooler temps in the 70's today.

2. The owners of have been named 2011 "Jazz Heroes" by the Jazz Journalists Association for their decades-long dedication to providing a forum for young Boston area players to develop their craft. To celebrate, Elynor Walcott and sons Paul, Frank and Lloyd Poindexter will host a special "satellite party" at Wally's on Saturday, June 11 from 1 - 5 p.m. WGBH jazz radio hosts and former JJA honorees Eric Jackson and Steve Schwartz will be on hand to present the award to the family when it is announced in New York.

3. The community weighed in on the last night during a BRA meeting. The project calls for the construction of three new buildings and a pavilion, along with renovations to the reflecting pool. Check back later today for the story.
