Five Things You Need to Know Today, Feb. 23
Laptop theft, free dental care and smart phone app for potholes.

Today is Wednesday, February 23. Here are five things you need to know:
1. Warmer weather is coming to the South End. Temps should reach the low 40s today and stay in that vicinity for a few days. You can also expect clear skies and breezes around 8 mph.
2. Police arrested Christian Boucher, 33, of Boston at the Pine Street Inn on Monday after he allegedly stole a backpack containing a new laptop from the South Station food court. Pine Street Inn employees called police after Boucher and another man began fighting over the backpack. When asked where he got the laptop, Boucher allegedly replied, "My friend from New York gave it to me.”

3. The Harvard School of Dental Medicine is offering free dental care for children on Saturday, March 5 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at its 188 Longwood Ave. office. Services include free dental cleanings, exams and x-rays for children ages 1-17 and free mouthguards for children 10 and up. To make an appointment call (857) 209-4963 or email gkas.harvard@gmail.com.
4. See a pothole? There's an app for that. The city recently released a prototype version of a hands-free smart phone application that detects potholes using GPS technology. The app, called Street Bump, notes the location of the car and the size of the potholes it crosses. To ensure usability, the city is partnering with Liberty Mutual and InnoCentive to collect suggested improvements from the public. Authors of the best suggestions will win awards courtesy of a $25,000 grant from Liberty Mutual. Click here for more info.
