Five Things You Need to Know Today, Jan. 19

More dreary weather, MBTA contest, photos and recipes.

Today is Wednesday, January 18. Here are five things you need to know:

1. What’s falling from the sky today? More rain! The forecast: A chance of rain and snow showers in the morning, then rain showers likely with a chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Patchy fog. Little or no snow accumulation. Highs in the upper 30s. And tonight? Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers in the evening. Patchy fog in the MBevening. Lows in the lower 20s. Chance of snow 40 percent.

2. The T would run on schedule if you were in charge, right? You can find out. The MBTA is inviting you, a T rider, to spend a day behind the scenes with General Manager Richard Davey. But officials are anticipating that a lot of Bostonians will want this, er, privilege. So they’re making this a contest. Tell them in 150 words or less why you should have this honor. The deadline is Jan. 31. If you win, you’ll be GM for a day on Feb. 4. Send entries to: GM4ADAY@mbta.com.

3. The City Council will not meet today for its regular meeting. The next meeting is currently scheduled for Wednesday, January 26.

4. Looking for inspiration in the kitchen? Check out our by Cook’s Corner columnist Colleen Mullen and look for her latest installment this afternoon.

5. Who doesn’t love old photos? The Boston Public Library has a pretty cool Flickr stream, featuring a ton of them of the city – and several of the neighborhood. Take a look: http://ht.ly/3FMh3.
