District 7 Special Election is Today

Cornell Mills and Tito Jackson are candidates for City Council.

Today is Tuesday, March 15. Here are five things you need to know:

1. It's Election Day if you live in District 7! Polls are open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. so don't forget to cast your ballot for city council. To find out where you're supposed to vote, click here. To read more about the candidates, and , click on their names, or check out our .

2. Sunny skies and temps in the mid-40s leave you no excuse not to head to the polls. Winds should be around 5 to 10 mph and clear skies will continue into the evening. No snow in the forecast, but you never know, do you?

3. The Boston School Committee is continuing a month of budget hearings tonight to give the public a chance to hear more about a new funding formula for city schools. Under the proposal, schools would be allocated funds in a “weighted student” formula, meant to ensure that all schools and students receive equal support. Tonight’s meeting is the Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester and there’s another meeting on March 22 at East Boston High from 6 to 8 p.m. For more details on the budget proposal, click here.

 4. It’s a fact. Hollywood loves working class guys from Boston. I guess we can thank Ben Affleck and Matt Damon – two distinctly non-working class boys from Cambridge – for establishing the genre. Its legacy continues now, and on the small screen. On Wednesday, the Travel Channel will premiere Deathwish Movers, a weekly show that follows a real-life moving company that navigates the city’s narrow streets and historic buildings like a bunch of superheroes with Boston accents. It’s on at 10 p.m. tomorrow night, but you can watch a couple preview videos on the Travel Channel website. I like the one where they ask the guys about their favorite pubs.

5. State Representative Aaron Michlewitz will hold his next coffee hour on Saturday, April 2 at the . Constituents are invited to stop by the informal session to discuss pressing matters, specific legislation or neighborhood concerns. “One of the best parts of my job is reaching out to my constituents and hearing what they have to say," said Michlewitz.
