Five Things You Need to Know Today, March 7

Spring arrives in the South End, cheapest gas and culinary honors.

Today is Monday, March 7. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Forecasts are calling for cloudy skies and passing showers to start the week. Patchy fog in the morning will accompany temperatures in the mid-40s. Come afternoon, cooler temperatures in the upper 30s are expected along with southwest winds 15 to 20 mph.

3. head-chef Jamie Bissonnette was named "The People's Best New Chef" in an online contest sponsored by Food and Wine Magazine. Bissonnette beat out contestants from all over the country, winning the title "because he's not afraid to challenge diners' palates with the daring nose-to-tail cooking," the magazine wrote on its website.

4. Gas prices are on the rise, climbing close to $4 per gallon in some areas. For South End drivers, the cheapest petroleum can currently be found at the Sunoco station at the intersection of Mass Ave. and Melnea Cass Blvd. According to MassachusettsGasPrices.com, the station is currently selling regular gasoline for $3.49 per gallon.
