Linehan Campaign Flyer Included Incorrect Election Date

Campaign says about '20-30' misprinted flyers distributed in housing projects.

A campaign flyer distributed to voters in Chinatown and the South End this week was printed with the wrong date for the upcoming municipal election, instructing voters to head to the polls on “Wednesday, September 27” instead of November 8.

Linehan’s campaign coordinator, Christin Armour, said Wednesday that about 20-30 flyers were distributed before the error was found. Labels have since been placed over the misprint and the flyers will be redistributed, she said.

“We realize there was a mistake, the mistake has been resolved and a new drop with the correct information is being done within the next few days (which will include most importantly the areas that received the misinformation),” Armour wrote in an email to Patch.

But Lydia Lowe of Chinese Progressive Political Action, a grassroots community organization located in Chinatown, said more flyers were distributed than the campaign has let on. Although the date appears to be a misprint based on the date of the preliminary election, the flyers are brand new, she added.

"I think it was probably more than 20-30," she said in on Wednesday. "It's very strange."

Chinese Progressive Political Action has said it will make calls to voters reminding them of the correct election date. In a press release issued on Wednesday, the CPPA said voters in housing developments in Chinatown and the South End reported receiving the misprinted flyers after a call had been made to Linehan’s campaign office.

Linehan, currently in his second term on the City Council representing District 2, is running for re-election against Chinatown resident . Lee outpaced Linehan in the September , garnering 39 percent of the vote, but was aided by challenger Bob Ferrara, who siphoned valuable South Boston votes away from Linehan, a South Boston native.

The CPPA has endorsed Lee in addition to at-large candidates Felix Arroyo and Ayanna Pressley.
