Thanksgiving at the Pine Street Inn
The South End homeless shelter will serve 1,500 holiday meals this Thanksgiving.

This Thanksgiving, will be serving dinner to an estimated 1,500 guests, with the help of over 215 volunteers. Wondering what that looks like? Here are some numbers:
- The Inn is roasting 63 twenty-five pound turkeys
- Mashing 460 pounds of potatoes
- Serving up 351 pounds of stuffing
- 157 pounds of cranberry sauce
- 307 pounds of corn and peas
- 42 gallons of gravy
- 188 pies of assorted flavors
Bruins Center Gregory Campbell will be delivering pies to the Inn this morning, and Mayor Thomas Menino and Senator Scott Brown will be carving turkeys and mingling with guests.
Volunteers will serve each guest a beautifully plated, restaurant-style meal beginning at 11:30 a.m.

In addition to those having dinner at Pine Street’s headquarters in the South End, the 650 tenants of Pine Street’s permanent housing program will celebrate the holiday in 34 housing sites throughout Boston and Brookline. For some, this is the first Thanksgiving in many years that they have spent in a home.
