This week brought news of the South End Library Friends' fundraising efforts - the group is hoping to replace the library doors with handicapped accessible ones. Mt. Washington Bank officially opened its doors in the South End, and CRU Wine and Spirits closed after an FBI visit last week. The South End's newest bank is now open for business at the corner of East Berkeley and Washington streets. Mt. Washington Bank held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning with bank executives, community members and employees.

The South End's newest marketplace opened its doors this week with shelves stocked to the brim with fresh vegetables, bakery items, frozen foods and yes, bananas.
CRU Wine and Spirits was closed this week following FBI activity at the Washington Street shop last Friday. Wednesday morning, a handmade “closed” sign adorned the entrance to the liquor store, and the shelves inside the shop were cleared of merchandise. Calls to the store were not answered.
