Volunteers Sought at Blackstone Community Center

Center is looking for math tutors on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Today is Wednesday, April 6. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Finally: sunny skies (becoming partly sunny by afternoon) with highs in the lower 50s. Winds 15 - 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

2. Still need a recycling cart? Public Works crews are still accepting requests for them. If you live in a building with up to six units, you can ask for an additional cart whle supplies list. Call 617-635-4500, or click here to file the request online.

3. The Blackstone Community Center is looking for volunteers to tutor math on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes are held between 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on both days. For more information or to sign up call the office at (617) 635-5153.

4. Do you enjoy sunny days in Copley Square? How about while walking along the Commonwealth Avenue Mall? Sign a petition filed by Reps. Marty Walz and Byron Rushing supporting a bill to protect sunlight on public parks. Specifically, it would prohibit new construction from casting a shadow over a certain length, to allow for sunlight in parks. The five protects parks are: The Back Bay Fens, Christopher Columbus Park, The Commonwealth Avenue Mall, Copley Square Park, The Esplanade, and Magazine Beach Park.

5. Attend one of four free showings of "Sweeny Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" at the Strand Theatre this month.
