Bear Hill Pond on Conservation Commission Agenda

Five things to know today, Wednesday, April 10, 2013:
1. Mostly cloudy, still in the 60s. A chance of showers today, mainly before 10 a.m. according to the National Weather Service. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 63. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Tonight, a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 44. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
2. Conservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. Among the items on the agenda tonight is the 7th Hole Pond at Bear Hill. In September, Wincrest developers and the town reached a preliminary agreement after Bear Hill reported drainage problems affecting the pond once work started at the Wincrest site.

3. Gun violence prevention forum tonight. Stoneham's state Sen. Katherine Clark is hosting a forum on gun violence prevention tonight from 6:30-8 p.m. at the The Markey Senior Center, 7 Washington St. in Malden. The forum will feature prominent figures in the debate surrounding gun violence, including Boston real estate developer and gun control advocate John Rosenthal, Professor David Hemenway of the Harvard School of Public Health and Director of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center, Chief Kevin Molis from the Malden Police Department, State Rep. David Linsky, and Dawn Tringas & Molly Malloy from Moms Demand Action. If you have any questions or would like to RSVP please contact Senator Clark's office at 617-722-1206.
4. Walking Club this morning. The Walking Club departs from the Stoneham Senior Center at 8:30 a.m. each Wednesday (except holidays), picks up additional walkers at Finnegan Hall, and continues on for a refreshing walk around the area. This is a great way to get some exercise, meet some nice people and get outdoors. Call (781) 438-1157 for information.

5. Weekly Lake "Q" Fun Run. The Mystic Runners Club takes a run around Lake Quannapowitt every Wednesday night at 6:45 p.m., although the starting time changes in the winter months. Arrive early to get registered—cost is $2. The Fun Run is timed and the results get post on coolrunning.com. Theun starts at Lord Wakefield Hotel, 595 North Ave. in Wakefield.
